How does remote repair work? What do I need to install?
We use RustDesk. It's free for you. No account. No subscription ambush.
How it works
- Download RustDesk from rustdesk.com. Open it.
- Give us the 9-digit ID and one-time password on the screen.
- We connect. You watch everything we do in real time.
- Want to end the session? Close RustDesk. That's it.
Security
- Every session is end-to-end encrypted.
- RustDesk is open-source. The code is public and auditable, not hidden behind a trust-us page.
- Close it and nothing stays running or connected.
- We can't get back in later unless you explicitly set up unattended access. That's only for Care Plan members.
What we need from you
- Be at your computer for the session.
- Stay reachable by phone or text while we work.
- Don't use the machine while we're in it. Two drivers, one keyboard. Bad system.
- Close RustDesk when we're done.
What's the difference between remote diagnosis and remote troubleshooting?
Diagnosis is the investigation, and it is free. We gather the evidence, identify what's failing, and report the findings in plain terms with a quote for the fix. No technical repair steps. No DIY guide disguised as free labor. Troubleshooting is the actual repair work. That's $60/hr.
How fast is the turnaround?
Most remote jobs are done the same day or next day. Hardware jobs depend on parts. Either way, you get a time estimate up front.
Do you make house calls?
Yes. In-home visits start at $99 within 15 miles of Marina Pointe in Hixson, and it's $2 per mile past that. Printer setup and repair, home WiFi and network help, and PC help at your home. Parts are extra. Text or call (423) 362-7954 to book.
How does printing work?
Text your file to (423) 362-7954, or email it to [email protected], and tell us how many copies you need. Black and white is $1 a page, color is $2 a page. Printing is fast: your job runs as soon as we are at the machine, and you can pick it up the moment it's done, at Marina Pointe. If you are on a hard deadline, call or text first and we will confirm the timing before you count on it.
Do you do soldering or board-level repair?
No. We don't do soldering jobs or board-level repair — things like HDMI port replacement on game consoles are outside what I offer.
What if my computer has pests in it?
Roaches, bed bugs, or any other infestation means we stop. We're a computer repair service, not pest control. If bugs are found in your PC, we can cancel the repair and charge a $25 infestation fee.
Will you look through my files?
No. We touch what the repair requires. Your files are your business. Full stop.
Do you keep my passwords?
No. If you share one for the repair, change it when we're done. We don't collect passwords as souvenirs.
Do you ever do paid work without asking me first?
Never. You get the diagnosis and the price first. Nothing billable happens until you say go. Mystery charges can stay with the cable companies.
Is the diagnosis really free?
Yes. We identify the problem in plain terms and quote the repair before anything paid starts. Don't want the repair? You pay nothing. “Free” is doing its normal job here.
Can a diagnosis ever be wrong?
It can, and any shop that swears otherwise is selling something. Plenty of faults are intermittent: they pass every test at 2 PM and fall apart at midnight. Every report we write is based on the evidence the machine produces under testing, and most cases close exactly there. When deeper testing turns up a different culprit, we say so plainly, show you what changed, and update the quote before any paid work proceeds. A part that turns out not to be the problem comes back out at no cost to you, and a repair that does not fix the problem carries no labor charge. The investigation stays open until the evidence supports the answer.
What is the Care Plan?
$29 a month covers remote tune-ups, virus checks, and priority support. Small problems get handled before they become expensive personalities.
How do I pay?
By card through a secure payment link. Parts we need to buy for your repair are paid for before we order them. Remote repair labor is paid in advance — work begins once payment clears. In-person repair labor is paid on completion.
What do websites cost?
A one-page website is $349, a small business website up to 5 pages is $899, a redesign starts at $499, and a Shopify store setup is $1,299. The Website Care Plan is $29/mo for updates, backups, and small content edits. Every project starts with a free consultation. Full details are on the Web Design page.
Can you get me back into a hacked Facebook, Instagram, or X account?
We can run the recovery with you, at the remote rate. We start by securing your email, because every reset link lands there, and recovering an account while someone else controls the email does not hold. Then we work through the platform's official recovery and ID checks together. Once you are back in, we remove unknown sessions and devices, change the password, and turn on two-factor. One honest limit: recovery can never be guaranteed. If the platform rejects the verification, the account may not come back, and anyone who promises otherwise is not being straight with you.
Can you recover files from a dead or failing drive?
Often, yes, if the drive still reads. Deleted files, a failing drive that still spins and shows up, or moving everything to a new computer starts at $99. That is the first tier. The second tier is a physically damaged drive, clicking, not spinning up, or dropped, and that work belongs in a specialist lab with the right tools. If yours is in that tier, we tell you up front and refer it out instead of opening it up and making recovery harder.
